International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on September 21. Established in 1981, the United Nations General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.
You can bring the message of peace to your college campus this month and beyond! Here are five ways to celebrate International Day of Peace:
By Yourself: Change your Facebook profile picture to Thank a Peacekeeper and spread awareness for the UN Mission in Central African Republic.
As a Group: Find a creative way to show your support for UN peacekeepers by participating in UNA-USA's Thank a Peacekeeper competition- you could win a trip to NYC to thank them in person! Submit your story by September 30.
With Your Chapter: Explore peacebuilding with the United States Institute of Peace. As an event for your campus chapter, watch their videos on building peace with people like Juanes; then, use this toolkit to lead a discussion with your group that challenges your peers to define conflict and peace and to understand the complexities of both peace and conflict.
Globally: Visit the UN's hub for International Day of Peace and connect with thousands of other communities celebrating peace on September 21.
