UNA-USA recognizes that the UN’s role in advancing peace and security is of great importance to our members. Below are two recent activities that we would like to bring to your attention:
- June 29, 2016 : Ambassador Samantha Power gave remarks on The Global Refugee Crisis: Overcoming Fears and Spurring Action for an audience at the U.S. Institute of Peace. She addressed the urgent need for a concerted, global response to the current refugee crisis. She also previewed the Leaders' Summit on Refugees that President Obama will convene at the U.N.
- June 30-July 1: UN General Assembly adopted by consensus a resolution reviewing the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. The strategy is a unique global instrument to enhance national, regional and international efforts to counter terrorism. In addition, the Assembly welcomed the Secretary-General’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism, recommending that Member States consider the implementation of relevant recommendations of the plan, with the support of the United Nations.
